Adobe Audition

Adobe Audition (formerly Cool Edit Pro) is an absolute powerhouse in the professional broadcasting, podcasting, and post-production video space. While tools like Logic Pro are built for musicians composing songs, Audition is built explicitly for audio engineers trying to perfectly clean, mix, and master recorded dialogue and sound effects. Its defining feature is its "Spectral Frequency Display." Instead of just looking at standard volume waveforms, the spectral view shows the audio's frequencies in a heat map. An engineer can visually identify the specific bright orange line representing the screech of a passing ambulance siren in the background of a movie dialogue track. Using a "paintbrush" tool, the engineer can literally erase that specific frequency from the audio without deleting the actor's voice, performing absolute audio magic. Because it is part of the Adobe Creative Cloud, it is the default audio editor for video professionals. A video editor working in Premiere Pro can highlight a video clip, click "Edit in Adobe Audition," seamlessly apply heavy noise reduction to the audio track, and instantly save it back into the Premiere timeline without ever having to export or render intermediate files.
