Google Cloud Apigee

Apigee, acquired by Google, is an enterprise-grade API gateway and management platform. While tools like Postman are built for the individual developer testing an endpoint, Apigee is built for the massive corporation trying to expose its internal backend services to the public internet securely and profitably. When a company routes its API traffic through Apigee, the platform acts as a protective proxy layer. It handles complex security protocols (like OAuth 2.0 and SAML) so the underlying backend servers don't have to. It also implements strict rate limiting. If a malicious bot attempts a DDoS attack by hitting an API endpoint a million times a second, Apigee absorbs the attack at the edge, protecting the company's internal databases from crashing. It is highly focused on API monetization. If a telecom company wants to charge third-party developers $0.01 every time they ping an SMS-sending API, Apigee handles the metering, billing, and developer onboarding automatically. Because it is a Google Cloud product, it integrates heavily with Google's analytics suite, providing deep insights into which specific API routes are generating the most revenue or experiencing the highest latency.
