AvidXchange is a massive, highly established player in the middle-market accounts payable automation space. It has built its reputation on an incredibly deep understanding of the unique, often archaic financial workflows of industries like real estate, construction, healthcare, and hospitality. In these industries, the AP process is historically plagued by massive volumes of paper invoices, highly complex multi-entity corporate structures (e.g., a real estate firm managing 50 different LLCs for 50 different properties), and deeply entrenched legacy accounting systems. The software is designed to provide a completely paperless, end-to-end AP workflow. It begins with AvidInvoice, a module that ingests invoices via email or a physical PO Box (AvidXchange actually offers a service to receive and scan your physical mail). Using machine learning, it extracts the data and routes the digital invoice through custom approval workflows that can be based on property, department, or massive spending thresholds. Crucially, AvidXchange excels at 2-way and 3-way matching, automatically comparing the invoice against the original Purchase Order (PO) and the physical receiving report to ensure the company is only paying for goods it actually received. AvidXchange's most significant differentiator is the "AvidPay Network." It is one of the largest B2B payment networks in the United States, containing the payment preferences of nearly a million suppliers. When a mid-market company decides to pay a vendor, they don't have to worry about whether the vendor accepts virtual cards, ACH, or requires a paper check. They simply release the funds to AvidXchange, and the AvidPay network automatically executes the payment via the vendor's preferred method. This massive network effect saves mid-market accounting teams hundreds of hours previously spent managing vendor payment details and chasing down lost checks.
