Amazon API Gateway

Amazon API Gateway is the default routing layer for the vast ecosystem of AWS cloud services. It is a fully managed service, meaning developers never have to provision a server, install software, or worry about load balancing. AWS handles all the infrastructure scaling automatically. Its most common use case is acting as the front door for "serverless" architectures. A developer can build a mobile app, configure AWS API Gateway to receive the HTTP requests from that app, and have the gateway instantly trigger an AWS Lambda function to process the logic. It scales automatically to handle hundreds of thousands of concurrent API calls and scales down to zero when there is no traffic, billing the customer only for the exact milliseconds of compute time used. While it is incredibly reliable and tightly integrated with AWS security features (like IAM roles and WAF), it suffers from vendor lock-in. Configuration logic built into AWS API Gateway cannot be easily exported to a different cloud provider like Google Cloud or Azure. It is highly technical, lacking the visual, user-friendly portals provided by standalone platforms like Postman or Apigee.
