bswift (previously owned by CVS Health / Aetna) is a major, highly respected enterprise player that sits right alongside Benefitfocus. Like Benefitfocus, it is completely specialized in the administration of highly complex benefit packages for large employers, and is famous for its highly engaging, cartoonish, but mathematically brilliant enrollment interface. Its signature feature is "Ask Emma"—an interactive, AI-driven avatar. During Open Enrollment, an employee clicks on Emma. Emma asks them simple questions: "Do you have any planned surgeries this year?", "How many times do you visit a specialist?", "What prescription drugs do you currently take?" Emma takes this data, cross-references it against the massive corporate health plans, and literally highlights the plan that will mathematically save the employee the most money. Because it operates in the enterprise tier, it offers massive "Outsourced Administration." A corporation doesn't just buy the software; they hire bswift's actual call center in the United States. If an employee is standing at a pharmacy counter and their insurance card is rejected, they can call the bswift hotline, and a bswift representative will fix the EDI file with the insurance carrier live on the phone.
