Datadog

Datadog operates in a completely different paradigm than legacy tools like SolarWinds. Datadog is an absolute titan of the "Cloud-Native" era. While legacy tools monitor physical Cisco routers sitting in a basement closet, Datadog was built to monitor massive, sprawling, ephemeral cloud architectures living in AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud. Its "Network Performance Monitoring" (NPM) module is heavily focused on containerized traffic. If a tech startup is running 5,000 Docker containers across a Kubernetes cluster, those containers are constantly spinning up, dying, and moving. Datadog visually maps the actual network traffic flowing between these ephemeral containers in real-time, allowing engineers to see exactly which microservice is causing a massive bandwidth bottleneck. It is universally beloved by DevOps engineers because it unifies network data with application data. If the network suddenly spikes, the engineer doesn't have to guess why. Datadog allows them to correlate the network spike directly to a specific SQL database query or a specific code deployment that happened at that exact same millisecond, radically reducing the "Mean Time To Resolution" (MTTR) during a massive outage.
