Envoy Proxy

Envoy Proxy (originally developed by the ride-sharing titan Lyft and now maintained by the CNCF) is a wildly disruptive, fiercely modern, and incredibly advanced open-source platform. While HAProxy and NGINX were built for traditional server architectures, Envoy was explicitly engineered from the absolute ground up for the "Modern Cloud-Native Microservices (Service Mesh)" era. The absolute core superpower of Envoy is its "Dynamic API Configuration and Observability." In a massive Kubernetes cluster with 10,000 microservices constantly spinning up and dying, traditional load balancers require heavy reloads. Envoy is designed to be dynamically controlled via APIs in real-time. Furthermore, it generates staggering amounts of highly granular telemetry data (metrics, tracing) for every single network hop. Because it is the underlying engine powering massive Service Meshes like Istio, offering unparalleled observability and dynamic routing, it is the inescapable standard for massive, highly complex Kubernetes environments.
