About Google Chat
Google Chat (the heavily rebranded and restructured successor to Google Hangouts) is the default messaging engine natively built directly into the massive Google Workspace (formerly G Suite) ecosystem. If a company uses Gmail and Google Docs, they already have Google Chat, and it operates directly inside their existing Gmail window.
Its absolute biggest advantage is "Frictionless Deployment." A company doesn't need to force its employees to download a separate desktop app like Slack or Teams. Since employees already have their browser open to their Gmail inbox all day, the Chat module simply lives in a sleek sidebar. They can instantly click from an email to a live chat to a Google Meet video call without ever leaving the Chrome browser tab.
It is incredibly powerful for document collaboration. If an employee pastes a link to a Google Doc into a Google Chat "Space" (their version of a channel), the software automatically checks the permissions. If 3 people in the chat don't have access to the document, Google Chat instantly prompts the sender to grant them access with a single click, completely eliminating the "You need to request access" nightmare.
