Kentik operates at the absolute highest end of the bandwidth monitoring spectrum. It does not target small businesses; it targets the massive backbone of the internet itself. Its primary customers are massive Telecoms, Cloud Service Providers, and hyper-scale digital enterprises (like Netflix or Zoom) that move petabytes of data across the globe every day. Its architecture is fundamentally different. Instead of installing a local server, the customer points their massive core internet routers to stream all their BGP (Border Gateway Protocol) and NetFlow telemetry data directly into the Kentik Cloud (a massive big data engine). Kentik analyzes billions of flow records in seconds. It is absolutely critical for "Peering Analytics" and DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) protection. If a massive Russian botnet launches a 100-Gigabit DDoS attack against a gaming company, Kentik detects the malicious traffic spike in less than a second, and automatically commands the company's edge routers to "Blackhole" the bad IP addresses, saving the gaming network from crashing.
