MathWorks MATLAB

MATLAB (by MathWorks) is a fiercely aggressive, highly specialized titan that completely dominates the "Engineering and Deep Scientific Computing" market. While tools like Databricks are used to predict ad clicks, MATLAB is used to mathematically calculate the aerodynamic drag on a SpaceX rocket, or process the radar signals of an F-35 fighter jet. It is the absolute, unquestioned mathematical weapon of choice for hardcore physicists, aerospace engineers, and signal processing scientists. Its absolute biggest differentiator is "The Matrix Mathematics Engine." MATLAB literally stands for "Matrix Laboratory." In deep engineering, everything (images, radar waves, audio) is mathematically represented as massive multidimensional matrices. Python can do this (via NumPy), but MATLAB was mathematically engineered from the silicon up to execute terrifyingly complex matrix algebra natively, making it exponentially faster and more stable for deep physical simulations. Because it targets physical engineering, its "Simulink Fusion" is legendary. A data scientist uses MATLAB to build an AI that detects anomalies in a jet engine. They then use Simulink (a visual block diagram environment) to mathematically simulate the entire physical jet engine. They inject the MATLAB AI directly into the Simulink physical model to test how the AI reacts to simulated turbulence, entirely before the actual physical jet is ever built.
