Integration platform for connecting SaaS & enterprise applications.

About MuleSoft Anypoint Platform

MuleSoft, now owned by Salesforce, is as much an integration platform (iPaaS) as it is an API manager. It operates on a philosophy called "API-led connectivity." Instead of building rigid point-to-point connections between a legacy mainframe and a modern web app, MuleSoft encourages developers to wrap the legacy system in a modern REST API, making it reusable across the entire organization. The core of the platform is the Anypoint Studio, a desktop IDE based on Eclipse. Developers use visual drag-and-drop components to map data fields—for instance, converting a legacy XML response from an old SAP database into a clean JSON format before sending it to Salesforce. This integration logic is then deployed to the Anypoint Runtime engine. It is heavily entrenched in massive legacy enterprises that are undergoing digital transformation. These companies often have decades-old on-premise databases that need to talk to modern cloud applications. MuleSoft provides the secure middleware to make that happen. However, it is notoriously expensive and requires specialized "Mule" developers to implement, placing it firmly out of reach for small startups.
