PlanSwift

PlanSwift (acquired by the massive ConstructConnect conglomerate) is a deeply entrenched, wildly popular veteran of the industry. Before cloud software like STACK existed, PlanSwift was the absolute, unquestioned pioneer that mathematically convinced tens of thousands of contractors to throw away their physical paper blueprints and start doing takeoffs digitally on their Windows desktop computers. Its signature feature is "The Drag-and-Drop Assembly Engine." An estimator looks at a blueprint on the screen showing a concrete foundation. They literally drag a folder named "6-inch Concrete Slab" from their database and drop it directly onto the blueprint. PlanSwift instantly colors the area, mathematically calculates the cubic yards of concrete, the rebar requirements, and the labor hours, instantly populating the final cost estimate. Despite the rise of cloud tools, it maintains a massive, fanatical user base because of its "Unrestricted Customization." Cloud tools are sometimes locked down. PlanSwift allows a hardcore estimator to write highly complex, custom mathematical formulas (macros) directly into the software using VBScript or Pascal. If an estimator has a highly proprietary, secret formula for calculating complex roof pitches, PlanSwift provides the raw architectural freedom to build it.
